Calamari rings (approx $19). This was my favourite. It was very lighty battered with a hint of chargrilled flavour.


Orecchiette con zucca: Orecchiette pasta tossed with pumpkin, pine nuts, fetta cheese and rocket pesto


Pollo ripieno: Oven baked chicken breast stuffed with fontina and ricotta cheese, wrapped with pancetta and served with mix of red onions, cherry tomatoes, peas and baby potato gnocchi $31.90

Anitra con salsa di arancio verdure: Half a boned crispy duckling with an orange, green olive, ginger and rosemary chilli sauce, served on wilted greens and country potatoes $34.50

Spaghetti con frutti di mare: spaghetti tossed with mussels, scallop, prawn, calamari and salmon with capers, chillies and tomatoes $29.90. The sauce for this spaghetti was a little bland.

There is a good variety to choose from. For the cakes, you can even buy them as a whole! We had the flourless chocolate souffle and the vanilla custard tart with sour cherries. These desserts are perfect for your sweet tooth! I had the tart and I thought it was perfect. However these snacks are not the cheapest around. Each of them are priced at $5.90.

After having been to Kenzan at Collins Place for dinner, we decide to try its sister store at GPO which targets a very different audience. You order and pay at the counter where there is a menu and a display of nicely packaged sushi/maki rolls. During lunch time, it was very busy and was not easy to find a spot for 2. The seating area is quite tight in some areas.








If you like inside out rolls or just premium and unique rolls for takeaway, then Kenzan @ GPO is right for you, however it would cost you 1.5 to 2 times what you would pay at Sushi Sushi. Pictured above is the spider roll which consist of soft shell crab and lettuce with seaweed and sesame sprinkled onto the sushi rice. This roll is also offered with crab roe mixed with sushi rice for the same price. The crab roe looks nicer, but seaweed and sesame certainly tastes nicer! The roll is wrapped with clear plastic sheet.


Pictured above is the Ebi Shumai which are steamed prawn dumplings ($9.90 for 3). It was a little too light on flavour in my opinion.


This is the Tempura Moriawase ($19 i think) which consist of pumpkin, carrot, seaweed, bean, cucumber, 2 x prawn, mix vegetable (tastes like onions and shallot etc.) and shintaki mushroom in a tempura batter. It comes with a rice. It was certainly not the best tempura we had as we felt that the batter was a little hard. However the range of ingredients was good (shintaki mushroom is one of my favourite and is not offered in most tempura sets). Seaweed and the mix vegetable is certainly the first we've seen.


This is the Ankake Udon ($11) , which is described as 'a zesty warm soup with egg and mushroom' on the menu board. The soup in this udon is nice and thick which quite a strong ginger flavour. If you hate the taste of ginger, then don't order this. The shintaki mushroom is the highlight of this Udon. It is marinated to have this sweet and nice flavour which is hard to describe but it very tasty. The udon is satisfactory for not been too soft, but slightly chewy.
